Carrington Moore (b. 1991, Norwich, CT) is an artist based in West Seattle, Washington in the Pacific Northwest. Her paintings explore themes of interior life, imagination, and the natural world.
Moore builds contemporary impressionistic paintings by deconstructing natural light and rearranging forms through her fantasy illustrator’s vision to capture interior states. This results in a dream-like interpretation of the world around her, highlighting the existence of energy and movement even in moments of stillness.
Her paintings are meant to spark appreciation for everyday experiences and encourage viewers to examine their own lives for beauty often overlooked. How does the rustling of grass in a field provide enough energy to carry an entire painting? How can light sources be moved to unconventional subject matter, like swans themselves, so they become the source of illumination in an otherwise dark painting? This exploration allows for the melding of the fantastical and the grounded, exploring a dynamic relationship between concrete observation and our ability to project meaning into the world around us.
Moore's work has been featured on Artsy and Wescover, and has partnered with Kevin Barry Art Advisory. She has collaborated with best-selling authors for her illustration work.
